For some reason, a 52 year-old Japanese-American patient who has undergone coronary artery bypass graft (CBAG) kept on requesting for me to be his bedside her. He is about to be discharged on Monday but he said that he wanted me to be his bedside nurse just before he leaves. He is nice, took his PhD at the Harvard University. A well-travelled man.
It is his first time in the Philippines, He was in Palawan scuba diving when he experienced sudden chest pain and the rest was history.
He said, he could not forget me because I was his charge nurse when he experienced chest pain. That night his IV went out so I had to reinsert and IV. It took me 2 attempts but both were failure. I asked the other charge nurse to make another attempt but she also failed. We SMSed the cardio fellow who successfully got the needle in.
He is also diabetic and has a standing order of CBG (capillary blood glucose) before breakfast. So I had to prick him and it appeared that he has low tolerance for pain. His blood sugar was high and based on the sliding scale, I had to inject insulin. That completed his painful night/morning with me and yet he considers me as his favorite nurse.
