We have just been hardly hit by Ondoy’s onslaught. And as we are all trying to stand up from where we fell, Ketsana (Ondoy’s international name) has caused some devastation in Vietnam and Cambodia.
Seriously, as I know that we are regarded as America’s ally, they are the first ones, who come to rescue us in times of catastrophe. But with the most recent turn of event, when the Islands of Samoa and American Samoa, a US territory have been washed out by 4 20-foot walls of waves, I do not think they could spare us some aide.
There was an approximately 8 to 8.5 magnitude of earthquake originated from the southern part of the Pacific Ocean 6:48 a.m. local time (1:48 p.m. EDT; 1748 GMT) and it created tsunamis hitting the Samoas and flattened out the villages near the coastline.
Warnings of further tsunami occurrences have been sent to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Japan — the countries around the Pacific Ocean.
In less than 24 hours after, another strong underwater seismic event rocked western part of Indonesia, enough to trigger tsunami alert for countries along the Indian Ocean. The earthquake clocked at 7.6-magnitude on the Richter scale which was strong enough to topple buildings, cut out electric power supply and caused a landslide in Sumatra. The landslide has claimed at least 75 lives.
These series of events is really getting into me, making me ask, is the end of world about to come?
My thought might be weird but it might be true. One disaster after another.
As it was written in the Bible, He will come like a thief in the night. We must be prepared.
