I got a breakfast tray for my laptop. This way I would not have to strain my back, neck and hands when using my laptop while in bed. It has been with me for more than a year and I brought it to the dorm. My roomie has asked me where I got it because she badly needs one for her laptop also. I told her that I got it from an office furniture shop more than a year ago and then it only cost less than P300.

In the midst of the summer heat, I went out and braved the sun to run some errands. Had to get money from Western Union, went to pick up my professional license from PRC (Professional Regulations Commision) and renew my driver’s license at LTO (Land Trasportation Office). I was also able to buy a cell phone and ship it to Switzerland.
I was able to finish them by 4:00 pm. I just grabbed myself a grande iced caramel macchiato and headed home.
I changed into my uniform and hit the road again for my night duty.
It was the usualy shift for me. My co-staff nurse just recognize the my left eye was red and I just dismissed the comment by telling him that it’s just irritated by the contact lense.
At 4:00 am while I was dressing the wound of the patient who has undergone coronary artery bypass graft. When I was about to drain the syringe in the comfort room, I took a glance at the mirror and was shocked to see that my left eye was bloodshot.
I hurriely went to the nurse’s bathroom and flushed it with sterile water. I even asked the help of a fellow nurse to flush it but the bleeding won’t stop so we decided to head for the ER. There, they did not do anything. They just asked me to rest. It’s useless. I decided to go back to the ward to finish my task instead.
After my shift, I went to the infirmary to see a doctor. He ordered to run some tests on me: CBC or complete blood count, PTPA and aPTT (both will check on my bleeding parameters). They all turned out tobe normal. Thank God!
I was told that it was a subconjunctival hemorrhage that will resolve on its own.
According to wrongdiagnosis.com:

Bleeding from one of the tiny, almost invisible blood vessel under the conjunctiva (the clear lining covering the eyeball and the inside of the eyelid). The condition can cause the whites of the eye to develop red patches from the blood trapped under the conjunctiva. Although the condition looks serious, it is painless, doesn’t impair vision and requires no treatment as the blood will usually disappear within a few weeks. The condition may occur for no apparent reason or may result from such things as an injury, coughing and heavy lifting

Since I am not hypertensive and diabetic, I know that it was caused by straining too much lifting a patient.

I learned from my new friend that he’ll be staying in Manila for 2 weeks before flying off to Europe for a business trip. He asked me for some good hotels that he could check in and I was thinking of hotels in cancun I did not suggest anything actually. I am such a louse friend. Also, I learned from him that he went out on pass the hospital the other day to rent a condominium for his stay in Manila. He was accompanied by one of our nurse volunteers. He told me that he requested my headnurse to accompany him to his day out but ofcourse for security reasons, my heardnurse declined. I was really surprised to hear him say that he preferred me to assist him in paying for his rent and doing his bank transactions.

Being a nurse does not just begin with vital signs taking and recording, patient assessment, medications and does not end with charting.
The nursing reponsibility involves knowing the disease process the medications, its mechanism of action, side effects and the precautions.
A female in her early 30s was admitted with complains of right upper abdominal pain. Tests revealed that she has cholelithiasis and cholecystitis.
According to medterms.com cholelithiasis is “the presence of stones in the gallbladder or common bile duct. The process of formation of such stones. From the Greek roots chole, bile + lithos, stone.”
On the other hand. cholecystitis refers to the “inflammation of the gallbladder, a complication of gallstones which are formed by cholesterol and pigment (bilirubin) in bile.”
Bile according to answers.com is a bitter, alkaline, brownish-yellow or greenish-yellow fluid that is secreted by the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and discharged into the duodenum and aids in the emulsification, digestion, and absorption of fats. Also called gall.
There are a few doctors who are thoughtful enough to share the diease process to the patients. So they (patients) end up at a loss as soon as the doctor steps out of the patient’s room. Most of the time, the nurses are the one being asked about for the information they need to know.
My patient was informed by her attending that she needs to undergo explore laparoscopy to remove the gallstones in order for the bile to have patent way to the colon. Otherwise, gallbladder will be filled with bile and sign and symptoms will worsen. Chronic gallstone disease may lead to fibrosis and loss of function of the gallbladder and predisposes to gallbladder cancer.

It is the season of giving which means the season of gift wrapping. While it is the thought that counts it is also nice to received gifts in boxes or wrappers that are well thought of. In our of our exchange gifts, I received a present that is beautifully wrapped in a box. The wrapping was made in sense that I needed a box cutter just to open it up.

The hospital where I am currently working in is a government institution and I am surprised to learn that the suite rooms cost range from 3000 to 4000. They have the regular and premier categories and the only difference as I have been told is that the living room in the premier has patio cushions that serve as the cherry on top of the ice cream

It was my first time to be on 3 to 11 p.m. duty at the Philippine Heart Center today and we have admitted 4 new patients filling up all the 7 suite rooms. Some of the patients were previously admitted there and they were surprised to see new changes in the room set up. Big flat screen TVs can are now stationed in each suite and the patients compare it to bell tv tv abroad.

I am really moved by my uncle’s and cousin’s generosity as they did not forget the gadgets that I need to perform my duty as a nurse. They want to make easier things for me so they bought me some electronics. I have now digital blood pressure monitor and pulse oxymeter. I really found them dandy in my course in the ward but something tells me that this is just the start of something.

Being here in the Philippines during the holidays, my niece who grew up abroad cannot help but be amused seeing artificial christmas trees in the mall. There are so many things that he found amusing here. Like the pirated softwares and movies on DVD and the imitation of designer stuff. He got so excited that he bought the complete 3 seasons of Entourage on DVD. I was so darn worried that he might get caught and put in jail but lucky for him is pulled it through and is now enjoying his show.

Okay, I just finished raiding the fridge and I am having this monstrous appetite for almost a week already. I can see that I am gaining quite a number of pounds especially in the mid-section of my body. I am thinking of hitting the gym again since I have some time to spare. I do not want to come to a point when popping in weight loss pills as one of my options to get rid of my love handles.
